MEDITATION 101: FOUR MAIN types of meditation

Meditation undoubtedly became one of the most popular mind fitness tools in the last decade and every day more and more people are trying meditation out.

But if you’re a beginner, sometimes it’s hard to know where to start, because there are so many different types of meditation out there and they all sound similar.

In the video below, Meditation teacher and Mindfulness coach Leah Santa Cruz has shared about 4 main types of meditation.

Hopefully, it will help you get a little bit better overview in which direction you’d like to explore further.

4 Common types of meditation


Mindfulness means paying attention to what’s happening right now in the present moment on purpose and with intention. 

That means paying attention to what’s happening around you and within you. 

You can use breath meditation, you can pay attention to sensations in your body, you can listen to beautiful music or simply pay attention to your thoughts. 

There are many styles of mindful meditation.

A mantra is usually a sound, a word or a phrase that you repeat silently or sometimes out loud in order to bring your mind-body system to a deep state of rest

This is really good for conjuring up creativity and healing


While practicing Energizing Meditation, we use the breath.

We manipulate the breath and we do certain body movements that really energize the body. Sorts of like natural energizer, natural coffee stimulant.

By doing this type of meditation you won’t need all of that. It’s really good for a “Pick-Me-Up” in the middle of the day.


Love and kindness.

Sending love to yourself and sending it to other people, so you can open up your heart and be a more empathetic person and show that there’s a leader in your own life.
